This work is inspired by the changing light across Australian river gums at the end of the day, where trunks and canopy absorb shifting tones of sun, shadow and atmosphere. It reflects my ongoing focus on tree portraits as close, immersive encounters with nature rather than distant landscapes. Built in acrylic with layered texture, the composition appears earthy from afar, while up close revealing a dynamic interplay of orange, green and purple tones woven through the surface. The colour shifts with movement, echoing the way sunset light transforms the bush moment by moment. In practical interior styling, vertical artworks are especially effective beside doorways, hallways, and narrow walls, above console tables or smaller furniture pieces, and in spaces where you want height rather than width to be emphasised. In this work, the vertical format mirrors how the viewer experiences the subject in nature—looking up into canopy, light, and layered structure rather than across a flat scene.

Description
Vertical works often carry a feeling of growth or upward movement—especially when the subject is nature-based, like trees, branches, or floral forms. That upward direction subtly reinforces ideas of life, flow, and continuation.
