Inspired by the dynamic presence of bottlebrush in bloom in my neighbour’s backyard, the composition brings together layered textures and rich colour contrasts, creating a clear sense of movement across the surface. The painting draws the eye through repeating forms and tonal variations, allowing each element to play its part within the whole — much like a musical arrangement unfolding visually. Awarded the Gallery 11:11 Art Prize / People’s Choice Award, Bottlebrush Symphony resonated strongly with viewers for its expressive energy and contemporary interpretation of a familiar native bloom.
