Description
The southern bluefin tuna is an example of nature ‘champions’ that in a process of evolution developed unique abilities. It is one of the larger bony fishes – up to 2.5 metres (8 ft 2 in) and weighing up to 260 kilograms (570 lb). It can maintain the temperature of their muscles above the temperature of surrounding water. It is an opportunistic feeder that can travel vertically through the water column These advantages enables them to maintain high metabolic output for predation and migrating large distances and depth.
